Buechner on Christ

A Christian is one who points at Christ and says, “I can’t prove a thing, but there’s something about his eyes and his voice.  There’s something about the way he carries his head, his hands, the way he carries his cross – the way he carries me.”

Frederick Buechner

Einstein on Miracles

"There are only two ways to live your life.
One is as though nothing is a miracle.
The other is as though everything is a miracle."

Voskamp on Valleys

"When we are in a valley, we’re but in the valley of cupped hands."
Ann Voskamp

Chesterton on Tales

"We all like astonishing tales because they touch the nerve of the ancient instinct of astonishment. This is proved by the fact that when we are very young children we do not need fairy tales: we only need tales. Mere life is interesting enough. A child of seven is excited by being told that Tommy opened a door and saw a dragon. But a child of three is excited by being told that Tommy opened a door. Boys like romantic tales; but babies like realistic tales — because they find them romantic."

G.K. Chesterton, from Orthodoxy

A New Blog

From my creative writing days in high school to now, words delight me. The endless ways in which they can be put together. The things that they can trigger. Emotions. Scenes. Memories. Longings. Beauty. Questions. How you can swirl them in your mouth and enjoy the taste and sound as you speak them. How they can nourish or negate, worship or wound, teach or trick.

A good book or quote to me is when the speaker uses words in a way I've never read, when words are strung together in a new pattern that it makes me stop and reread and oftentimes, reread again.....

While I already have a blog where I record my own writing, my hope is this will be a place to record the various things I read that stick with me. The things that make me say "hmmmm" as I read, for the joy of being introduced to that particular thought or way of viewing something.

A fitting quote to begin with:

"You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me."
C. S. Lewis

Oh, how he speaks the truth. Come sip some tea and words with me......
